The Road to Cuchara
Take Colorado State Highway 12, “The Scenic Highway of Legends” which offers one of the most scenic, beautiful and historic drives in Colorado. The Colorado State Scenic Byway begins either in La Veta or Trinidad and takes you through 22 communities, points of interest, scenic vistas, historical, cultural and recreational areas. In and around the Cuchara Valley is a wonderful opportunity to view all the geological wonders of the area. Check out The Great Dikes, The Spanish Peaks and the Goemmer Butte.
Cuchara Village
Cuchara is a quaint little mountain town nestled in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. With unspoiled natural beauty, friendly people and peace and quiet. Cuchara is a great place to kick back and enjoy your vacation. Stroll thru the village and get a bite to eat, do a little shopping, or play a round of Mini Golf. Cuchara is surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest and offers plenty of hiking, fishing, & wildlife viewing opportunities. The town sits at 8,650 feet in elevation.

LaVeta
“The gateway to the Cuchara Valley". Just 12 miles from Cuchara is the little, laid-back town of LaVeta. A peaceful ranching & artist community that looks towards the Spanish Peaks and the Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range.The town itself is small but charming, with friendly locals and plenty of unique shops and restaurants to explore. Stop by Charlie's Market for an Ice cream cone or take a walk thru the park.

Walsenburg
Walsenburg is in the heart of Spanish Peaks Country, criss-crossed by I-25 and state highways 160 and 10. It's the Huerfano County seat as well as a place to shop & pick up supplies and explore. With grocery stores, the Walsenburg Mining Museum and Lathrop State Park this town is a good stop over on the way to the Cuchara Valley.
